Judith Van Oeckel - All She Wants to Do Is Dance

All She Wants to Do Is Dance starts from the temporary immobility of a dancer. Due to a respiratory infection in August 2020, Judith Van Oeckel suffers from chronic migraines and is therefore no longer able to work full-time as a dancer. With All She Wants to Do Is Dance she is in search of different means to bring dance in front of an audience, through micro choreographies.

The work is a mixture of choreography, durational performance and fine arts that plays with themes such as ownership and control.

The work consists of specific movements, micro choreographies as such, by Judith Van Oeckel preserved through; video, written description, audio recordings and a commitment laid down in a binding agreement. The agreement reflects on how we can maintain and own non-tangible artistic practices like dance and performance. Judith Van Oeckel commits not to use the *purchased movements ever again in public choreographies, neither of her own, nor commissioned by other artists or choreographers in her lifetime. The commitment is valid worldwide.

A live performance as an addition to this work is exploring the limitations of her body. A series of micro choreographies will be performed and could be up for auction.
